June 6, 2008, ST. LOUIS — In a June 5 news conference at the Siteman Cancer Center, Missouri Governor Matt Blunt signed legislation encouraging donations for breast cancer services for Missouri women.

The legislation, Senate Bill 1105, creates a check-off on the Missouri individual and corporate income tax forms for contributions to the breast cancer awareness fund. Donations will be used by the Friends of the Missouri Women’s Council for breast cancer services.

“Breast cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women,” said Gov. Blunt. “I am honored to sign this legislation illustrating that our state values the contributions of women to our homes, careers, communities and state.

Sponsored by state senator Maida Coleman, the bill will offer individuals or corporations entitled to a tax refund to make a donation credited to the “Breast Cancer Awareness Trust Fund.” Taxpayers not getting a refund can also make a contribution when paying taxes.
